Portraits by Timothy J. Chambers

Adult Workshops & Materials Info

Tim loves to teach Painting the Portrait Outdoors to those looking for the ultimate challenge in portraiture. If the highest art is to capture the glory of God's creation- people, then to do so under the beautiful light and color of outdoors is the epitome of painting. Join Tim as he shares tips on form, color, anatomy, rhythm, and did I say color? Splendid color! This workshop is a treat and your biggest achievement as an artist.

Workshops are 3 to 5 days in length, and can be held anywhere. Consider making a vacation of it! For a sample workshop agenda, click the link in the column on the left. To see if there is a portrait workshop planned soon, visit the Workshops page.

If you would like to host a workshop, please email us at studio@timothychambers.com.

PHILOSOPHY of TEACHING: Essentially, painting is simpy problem-solving: How do you interpert what you see and then comprehend it? And secondly, How do you get on canvas what is in your head? My goal is for you to be able to answer these questions by giving you the tools and insight. How do I do this? Simple- teach you what questions to ask, and also how to implement this on your paper, canvas, etc.
MATERIALS
: I encourage you not to skimp when it comes to your art materials. No, you don't need to buy the most expensive paints out there- not by any stretch. A Toyota will get you just as far as a Rolls Royce. Poor materials will only hinder, dinstract, and frustrate you. I've provided a list of affordable drawing and painting materials that will faciliate your work.

The easiest means to get my recommended supplies: visit www.dickblick.com and use the shopping cart of items hand-picked by me. Select what you need today, get other items as you need them. I don't receive any kickback from dickblick.com, but their prices and service can't be beat. Follow the Blick U link, select "Virginia", then "Chambers Art Workshop". Or, you could just click here. :)  You'll see a list of courses, one of which will suit your needs.
